Welcome to Seventh Grade Social Studies. You will be learning about the ancient and medieval worlds. This class is an exploration of the past that includes you and extends beyond the classroom to everywhere you go. Because, after all, each of you are making your own history.
*Classroom Expectations
The simple rule for classroom behavior is mutual respect for oneself and others. In this class you are encouraged and expected to have strong opinions of your own. You will have every chance to express your thoughts and ideas about history. The expectation is that you speak with respect. Be kind.
Classwork will stretch beyond the textbook. You will be working with peer groups that will stretch into social networks, Google blogs, Twitter, as well as Second Life. You will be experimenting by playing "Civilization" with constructing social structures and political and cultural themes.
You are expected to build your own learning with a multitude of media and methods. Find your passion in this class and you cannot fail.
Classroom Procedures
Upon entering class you will submit any work in your class file at the doorway, then meet with your group to discuss and work out the Question Prompt on the Smart Board. Prepare an answer to contribute to the class discussion.
The Agenda by Month, week, and day will be posted. On a usual day, we will meet to review and introduce new material, then you will begin or continue work on that weeks learning project. At the end of the period the class will spend five minutes sharing each groups findings for the day.
Class Supplies
You will utilize a classroom journal in which you will record your progress and your reflections on learning.
You may use a classroom notebook for notes, etc. However, all information, including PowerPoint notes, assignments, questions, etc will be displayed on this blog. You will also be able to turn in written assignments by posting on the board.
